About Hormone Yoga

Hormone Yoga is a sequence of postures, dynamic breathing and yoga nidra, created in 1992 by Brazilian Dinah Rodrigues. The set activates hormone production in the ovaries, thyroid, pituitary and adrenals.

A regular practice helps to balance your hormones and eliminate symptoms of imbalance.

Once you have memorized the set, it only takes half hour to do. I recommend practicing 4-6 times a week for best results. As soon as your symptoms are gone, you can shift to practicing a couple of times a week.

In her 90s, Dinah is a walking testimony as to how effective Hormone Yoga is!

In this course I guide you step by step with professionally recorded video lessons. People often say: where do you get your energy? Your glow? It’s the hormones. I do have a healthy life style. I don’t use makeup or perfume (big hormone disruptor!), I practise yoga for 22 years, of which 14 as a teacher. I don’t use chemical cleaning & self care products and eat non-processed food. And I’ve learned to adjust my life when stress arises. And then there’s Hormone Yoga. What a bliss! I can now have healthy hormones for life.

What studies say

In 1993, after Dinah saw the wonderful results in her students, she set up a scientific study with the university of Sao Paulo about the effects of Hormone Yoga on hormone levels and hormonal imbalance. Estradiol levels were measured through blood analysis in women before they started Hormone Yoga, and then every 4 months. The women were also asked to keep a diary of their symptoms. The results were impressive: 100% of the women saw an increased estradiol level of 154%, and their symptoms were (almost) entirely gone.

Absolutely! The set was originally designed for menopausal women, so you needn’t be super fit. Plus I explain each pose and technique at a beginner’s level.

Of course. All you need to do is watch the weekly 1-hour video lesson. If you practice fifteen minutes a day, preferably in the morning, you’re good. Early evening also works, as long as you don’t practice right before bedtime as the set is energizing. Once you have memorized the set, practice only takes 30 minutes. Also, it will give you so much energy that you will not want to miss out!

Hormone Yoga is holistic. This means it affects your entire endocrine system. If you suffer from hormonal imbalance, I recommend practicing at least 4 to 5 times a week. Once your symptoms have diminished/disappeared, you can switch to a 2-3 times per week for maintenance.

It takes some time before your hormones are balanced again. How much time is different for each woman, depending on symptoms, health history, life style, etc. You will start to feel the effects after two weeks. It takes about a month to six weeks before the effects will be in full swing and the hormone imbalance symptoms start to diminish or disappear.

Hormone Yoga is for women of all ages who have had a period for at least two years (teens are still developing their cycle so it’s best to give the body the time to find its rhythm).

  • Women over 16 with hormonal imbalances; PMS, irregular cycle, painful periods, PCOS, ovarian cysts and premature menopause
  • Women over 35. That’s when your ovarian activity starts to decrease. Hormone Yoga will keep up hormone production and reduce the chance of menopausal complaints.
  • Women who consider going off the pill
  • Women who have gone off the pill but still don’t have a regular cycle
  • Women with fertility issues
  • Women with low or no sex drive
  • Women in (pre)menopause with hot flushes, night sweats, insomnia, mood swings, depression, headaches, aching joints, concentration problems, etc.

  • Women with a slow thyroid

Yes. Birth control shuts down your natural sex hormones. As synthetic hormones enter your body, your own hormones become ‘lazy’. This explains why it often takes months before women who have gone off the pill, regain a regular cycle. With Hormone Yoga you keep your own hormones active. If one day you decide to go off birth control, your natural hormones will take over again much quicker.

Yes. If you still have ovaries, you still produce estrogen and progesterone like all women. But even without ovaries Hormone Yoga still makes sense. Your hormones are part of one endocrine system. If some hormonal glands (e.g. ovaries) are out of function, other glands will help out, e.g. your adrenals also produce progesterone and estrogen. With Hormone Yoga you support your whole endocrine system.
If your uterus or both ovaries have been removed, energetically they are still there. The body remembers what was there, and how it worked. That is why some women can still feel their uterus after a hysterectomy. Hormone Yoga will energetically activate your removed ovaries and/or uterus.

After giving birth there are many other hormones at work in your body, even more so if you breastfeed. That is why we recommend waiting 5 months.

Hormone Yoga activates hormone production, including estrogen production. Estrogen enables mitosis (cell division). That is why excess estrogen may stir tumor growth. 
However, Hormone Yoga also balances hormones, so there is neither a shortage nor excess of hormones. But with hormonal breast cancer caution is needed, and it is recommended to consult with your GP.

Yes. Hormone Yoga will support your own hormone production and balance, and it will help ensure a healthy implantation of a fertilized egg. However, once you have confirmation of pregnancy, you should stop your Hormone Yoga practise.

Yes. Hormone Yoga will diminish or even eliminate myomas/cysts/fibroids. However, if you suffer from very big myomas or fibroids, or cysts larger than 5cm, it is recommended to consult with your GP. Hormone Yoga has shown amazing results with PCOS. Many students went back to a healthy regular cycle after practising Hormone Yoga!

  • Hormonal (breast)cancer (medical permission is needed + you have to be cancer free for a minimum of 5 years)
  • Pregnancy
  • Having given birth less than 5 months ago
  • Advanced endometriosis (medical permission is needed)
  • Big myomas, fibroids or cysts larger than 5cm (medical permission is needed) 
  • Recent surgery in the abdominal area (less than 3 months ago)
  • Heart disorders or heart surgery (medical permission is needed) 
  • Advanced osteoporosis (risk of bone fracture)
  • Epilepsy

Menopause is a natural process. If the symptoms mess up your daily life, I understand you looked for a solution. However, take into account that HRT remains a medical interference in your own biology. Some women suffer from side effects such as headaches, painful breasts, fluid retention in ankles and feet, mood swings, etc. There are risks with HRT. Thrombosis in legs and/or lungs, impaired liver, gall bladder stones, a higher risk of vascular diseases, strokes, breast and cervical cancer.

If you are on HRT and want to come off it, Hormone Yoga might be the thing for you. The advantage of Hormone Yoga? It is completely natural. You work with your body and support optimal functioning. A healthy and natural solution for life!

Yes! Hormone Yoga activates your ovaries. A fellow Hormone Yoga teacher from Czech Republic was told she could never conceive but refused to accept the verdict. Each day she diligently practiced Hormone Yoga. Eight months later she was pregnant. Her doctor said it was impossible. Her little fellow is now 10 and in excellent health!

Because this way you cannot ‘cheat’ by advancing too quickly. You are limited to the pace given. This way I make sure you rehearse the lesson before we continue, as each lesson builds upon the previous one. If you follow the pace, by the end of the 10 weeks, you will know the set by heart and will have no problem to keep practising at home, with the help of the poster, the manual and the video of the full set.
